ICM505 Final Project Progress

What have I accomplished thus far?

I HAVE A GREAT LOOKING PORTFOLIO! That's the first thing. (Click the image below if you would like to see it.) I have a portfolio website that looks good and showcases my ability to work with HTML, CSS, PHP, jQuery, etc., while also working with responsive templates for the best possible outcome. It will be nice to invite hiring managers and recruiters to this site, rather than my old Weebly site.

What changes in thinking, approach, I encountered since my original plan?

Well, the first thing I changed was the number of pages. After thinking about the purpose of a portfolio website, I decided having a variety of content located within arms reach would help recruiters by simplifying the effort required to sample my samples.

I want more flash in that first pan, to grab attention quickly.

Therefore, instead of having separate pages for video, audio, photography, writing, etc., I decided to host samples of all content on the Home page. Then I added a Media page to hold further examples. Finally, a simple Resume page and Contact page offer quick info and access.

I think this will offer a better experience for visitors and increase my chances of making quality connections while serving up the most content.

What's left to accomplish, to meet my final presentation requirements and goals?

On the Home page, I still need to place my own photos into the slider and figure out how to get the text for the slider up to the right, rather than under it.

On the Media page, I need to replace all Lorem Ipsum with original content, and I need to insert more original media into the grid. I was struggling with getting the size of videos to fit within the grid placeholders without messing up the layout. I'm not sure if there is a table I should use, or something else to organize items in a grid that stays in the same layout regardless of content. Wow this can get frustrating!

Richard's Rules for Reading

"It's called reading! Top to bottom, left to right...
a group of words together is called a sentence.
Take Tylenol for any headaches... Midol for any cramps."

- Richard, Tommy Boy (1995)

Finally, I wouldn't mind adding a blog page that contains a WordPress blog where I can have regularly updated blog posts.

Blog, blog, blog... yes, I said it a few times. Blog. I think this would be a nice place to show engagement within my fields of professional interest and to showcase some writing abilities.

That's it, really. I think this is a project I will continue to work on and polish well after this class has ended. I look forward to revisiting course materials as well as digging deeper into W3Schools.com and other resources to learn and develop these skills.
